King Richard's Faire in Carver, MA, hosts the "Tale of the Tiger" show put on by T.I.G.E.R.S., an organization led by Dr. Bhagavan Antle, featuring tigers, white tigers, and golden tabby tigers. The star of the show is a liger named Hercules.
Carolina Tiger Rescue is opposed to the use of wild animals for purposes other than education or breeding in accordance with Species Survival and Population Management Plans. Carolina Tiger believes that the ideal home for wildlife is in their natural habitat.
Carolina Tiger is also against breeding hybrids like ligers or breeding for distinct coloration (white tigers, tabby tigers). These "designer" colorations are recessive traits, and breeding for them encourages inbreeding. This type of breeding also depletes resources that might otherwise be devoted to rescuing other wildlife or working to save wildlife species in their native habitats.

Marshall Gorby/Staff Photo
Cindy Shaffer holds a photo of her exotic cat, Serafina. The animal, similar in appearance to a cheetah, was kept as a pet and has been missing for two months.
Rules are not being drafted in Ohio to ban the ownership of "wild and dangerous" thanks to an agreement between the state's Governor, Ted Strickland, and the Humane Society of the United States. The action follows an incident where a bear attacked and killed his caretaker in August.

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy
A white tiger cub at the Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Tamil Nadu, India is turning black. The cub was part of a litter of three born 3 months ago. Zoo officials currently think this change may be genetic.
"Melanistic" tigers have only been rumored, the closest evidence being a dark pelt that turned out to be more of a very dark orange. Black coloring is seen in many other wildcat species, most notably the leopard and jaguar.
